Subaru Impreza GC/GF rear wheel arch panels: 1992–2001 fitment guide

The first-generation Subaru Impreza is commonly identified by GC/GF chassis codes, but choosing a rear wheel arch repair panel requires more than recognising the generation. Body style, production period and installation side should all be checked before ordering.

This guide explains the main fitment details to compare when looking for a rear wheel arch repair section for an Impreza GC/GF from the first-generation period.

GC and GF are not the same body style

GC and GF belong to the same Impreza generation, but they are commonly used for different body versions. GC is associated with the sedan, while GF identifies the wagon body.

This matters around the rear of the car. The shape and surrounding structure of the quarter panel can differ between sedan and wagon versions, so a panel should be selected for the correct body style rather than simply for “first-generation Impreza”.

Check the year together with the chassis code

The GC/GF generation covers a long production period, and year information remains useful when checking a product. Compare the vehicle year with the range stated in the individual panel listing.

Do not rely on registration year alone if anything appears unclear. Chassis identification and body style provide additional confirmation that the car belongs to the version the repair panel was designed for.

Inspect how much of the wheel arch is damaged

Before ordering, inspect the complete rear wheel arch rather than only the most visible rust spot. Corrosion can continue underneath paint, along the lip of the arch or into the adjoining metal.

The repair section needs to cover enough sound metal around the damaged area for the repair to be carried out properly. Knowing how far the corrosion extends also helps determine whether the outer wheel arch is the only section that requires attention.

Outer and inner arch repairs are different

A rear wheel arch repair panel and an inner wheel arch repair section are not the same part. The outer panel forms the visible exterior shape of the body, while the inner section belongs to the structure behind it.

When corrosion is advanced, both areas should be inspected before parts are ordered. Replacing only the visible outer section does not address damage that may also exist behind it.

Confirm left or right before ordering

Rear wheel arch panels can be side-specific, so make sure you know whether the damaged area is on the left or right side of the vehicle. Check this against the product title before adding the panel to the cart.

Finally, compare the complete fitment information: Impreza generation, GC or GF body version, production year and installation side. If any detail is uncertain, send us the vehicle information and a photo of the damaged arch before ordering.
