Subaru Impreza GD vs GG rear wheel arch panels: Sedan vs wagon fitment guide

The second-generation Subaru Impreza is commonly identified by the GD and GG chassis codes. These codes are especially useful when choosing rear body repair panels because they distinguish the sedan from the wagon.

A rear wheel arch panel must follow the shape of the surrounding quarter panel, so selecting a part for the correct body version is essential. Model name and production year alone are not always enough.

GD and GG identify different body styles

Within this Impreza generation, GD refers to the four-door sedan and GG to the five-door wagon. They belong to the same model family, but their rear body shapes are not identical.

This difference matters when choosing repair sections around the rear wheel arch and quarter panel. A panel listed for GD should not automatically be treated as suitable for GG simply because both cars are second-generation Imprezas.

Check the chassis code before comparing panels

Start by confirming whether the vehicle is a GD or GG. This gives you a much more useful fitment reference than searching only by “Subaru Impreza 2002–2007”.

The chassis code can usually be checked against the vehicle information before ordering. Once you know the correct body version, compare it directly with the fitment details provided for the repair panel.

Production year is still important

The GD/GG generation covers several model years and received styling changes during its production run. The basic chassis family remains useful, but the year range shown on an individual product page should still be checked carefully.

If a panel is listed only for part of the generation, do not assume that it fits every GD or GG. Use the chassis code and production year together rather than relying on either detail alone.

Inspect the complete wheel arch area

Before ordering an outer rear wheel arch panel, inspect the full damaged area. Rust visible around the edge of the arch can extend underneath paint or farther into the adjoining quarter panel.

Also check the metal behind the visible outer arch. If the inner wheel arch is affected as well, repairing only the exterior section may not address all of the corrosion.

Confirm the installation side

Rear wheel arch repair panels can be side-specific. After confirming GD or GG, check whether the damaged area is on the left or right side and make sure the selected part matches it.

The safest approach is to compare all fitment details together: Impreza generation, GD or GG body style, production year and installation side. Product photos can support the check, but the written fitment information should be the main reference.

If the fitment is unclear

If you are unsure whether your Impreza is a GD or GG, or which rear wheel arch section you need, contact us before ordering. Send the production year, chassis information if available and a clear photo of the damaged area.

These details make it much easier to narrow down the correct repair panel without relying on visual similarity alone.
